Foton Backs the 2nd World Humanoid Robot Games with Green Fleet and a Cargo-Van-and-Robot Demo in Beijing

Beijing, August 22-26 -- Six service vehicles on the volunteer shuttle run, one battery-electric van turned into a live robotics testbed: BAIC Foton supported the 2nd World Humanoid Robot Games and used the occasion to show how embodied intelligence could reshape the most physically punishing part of urban delivery -- the loading dock.

From August 22 to 26, the 2nd World Humanoid Robot Games were staged successfully at the National Speed Skating Oval, the "Ice Ribbon", in Beijing. A total of 666 teams and 2,056 humanoid robots drawn from 16 countries across six continents contested 51 events over five days.

As the core commercial-vehicle arm of the BAIC Group, BAIC Foton took part in depth. The company deployed a cumulative six service and support vehicles to handle volunteer commuting throughout the Games, and brought its forward-developed battery-electric model, the Foton Fengjing i7, onto the show floor, accompanying the event from opening to a successful close.

Freeing the driver's hands: intelligent capacity reshapes urban delivery efficiency

At the BAIC Group's joint exhibition area on the West Plaza, the group organised a dedicated "Robot Interaction Challenge" for on-site visitors, laid out as four brand-specific tracks featuring Stelato, Arcfox, BAIC Off-road and BAIC Foton.

The Foton Fengjing i7 served as the vehicle for the "cargo handling, freight and general-purpose humanoid robot" track and carried the core demonstration load of that course. Competing visitors and robot teams worked around the van to complete a continuous sequence of simulated cargo grasping, transfer and return-to-place, with officials scoring each run on three dimensions: task completion, presentation quality and the fluency of human-vehicle-robot interaction.

As the exhibit vehicle on the BAIC track, the Fengjing i7 presented a real-scene version of the "humanoid robot x commercial freight" working scenario. Its 7 cubic metre cargo body, a 470 to 500 millimetre ultra-low load floor, 270 degree side-hinged rear doors, a range of up to 460 kilometres and an 18-minute charge from 20 to 80 per cent together created a low-threshold, wide-opening and highly standardised operating environment for the robots.

This live "robots x freight" demonstration pointed squarely at the plainest pain point in urban distribution: make life easier for drivers and make transport more efficient.

In conventional urban distribution, loading and unloading is time-consuming and physically demanding. It absorbs a large share of a driver's working day and consists mostly of high-intensity, repetitive manual labour. Once humanoid robot technology matures and scales into coordinated handling alongside pure-electric vans such as the Fengjing i series, drivers could be relieved of much of the pressure that comes from carrying goods by hand. Heavy lifting on and off the vehicle and high-frequency turnover would fall increasingly to the robots, while the driver simply issues instructions through the in-vehicle terminal and tracks task progress. Standardised mechanical handling also delivers steadier working precision than manual carrying, which should reduce cargo damage rates and further lighten the operator's burden and compensation exposure.

More importantly, the Fengjing i7's battery-electric platform already cuts total cost of ownership substantially through low energy consumption and zero tailpipe emissions. When clean capacity meets intelligent handling, the urban delivery vehicle evolves from a dual-manpower model -- a person driving plus a person hauling -- into an efficient collaborative model: a person managing the vehicle, a machine moving the freight.

Why this matters. Robotics exhibitions tend to showcase robots in isolation. The Foton entry is different: it treats a production cargo van as robot infrastructure. A low deck, a big opening and a square, predictable load space are exactly the conditions that make automated grasping reliable -- which means the commercial vehicle, not the robot, is the variable that decides whether automated loading ever scales.

Technology empowerment accelerates transformation: building a smart commercial-vehicle ecosystem

Twenty-one scenario events at these Games covered nine real-world domains including the home, the hotel, industry and retail. Competitions such as the industrial "packing and warehousing station", the retail "customer service station" and the dexterous-hand special event on "unboxing and unpacking" cut directly into palletising, depackaging and sorting -- the working links of the logistics chain. The performance of humanoid robots in packing, unboxing and material feeding shows embodied intelligence moving from proof of concept towards scenario-based, engineering-grade exploration. The Fengjing i7 cargo-handling challenge at the BAIC booth was a deliberate, forward-looking echo of that trend.

As a leading domestic commercial-vehicle manufacturer, BAIC Foton has continued to step up its twin-engine push in new energy and intelligence. On the electrification side it has built a product matrix running in parallel across battery-electric, hybrid and hydrogen-fuel routes, and the Fengjing i series is the forward-developed flagship of its mid-size electric van segment. On the intelligence side, Foton has established its "5+3+1+N" full-domain intelligent driving platform and the Cangqiong dual AI large-model architecture, forming a full-stack in-house system that runs from the steer-by-wire chassis through end-to-end driving intelligence to cockpit and fleet operations.

On the commercialisation front, Auman Galaxy trucks equipped with Highway Pilot (HWP) have been delivered in batches to leading logistics operators including SF Express, ZTO and Deppon, with cumulative deliveries above 3,000 units. At the last mile, unmanned delivery vehicles, unmanned sanitation vehicles and Foton AUV intelligent buses are already running demonstration services in closed parks and urban micro-circulation routes, with Level 4 technology held in reserve. On the connectivity side, the Foton vehicle networking platform has more than 3 million vehicles online and serves over 4,500 logistics enterprises, using intelligent dispatching, driving-behaviour analysis and predictive maintenance to manage vehicle, cloud and fleet as one system.

These deployed capabilities -- vehicle-side intelligence, cloud-side dispatch and fleet management -- are the practical foundation of Foton's push to make commercial capacity intelligent. By bringing the Fengjing i7 to the exhibition as a low-deck, pure-electric urban delivery van and staging real cargo operations inside the venue, Foton offered the industry a physical reference point, drawn from the vehicle side, for thinking about where intelligent logistics is heading.
