Five Highlights That Define Foton Motor's Booth at the IAA Transportation Show in Hannover

The global commercial-vehicle industry has once again fixed its eyes on Hannover, and Chinese commercial-vehicle brands are projecting ever-stronger influence on the international stage.

On 14 September, IAA Transportation 2026 officially opened in the German city. Foton Motor arrived with the largest exhibition line-up in its history, gathering seven complete vehicles and six self-developed core components on its stand. Under the theme EASY MOVE — "Moving Everything More Freely", the company laid out a new European market strategy, marked a global milestone delivery and premiered flagship products overseas, demonstrating the next stage of its globalisation. At the launch event, the Cavan BEACON flagship heavy truck made its overseas debut, presenting a mature, comprehensive green and intelligent transport solution to the global market.

Highlight 1: A Milestone Delivery — A Full-Range Product Matrix Cracks the European Market

At the launch event, Chang Rui, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and General Manager of BAIC Group and Chairman of BAIC Foton, announced that Foton Motor had officially delivered its 13-millionth vehicle worldwide. The car that reached this milestone — an Auman Galaxy 9 — was handed over as it entered the Spanish market, formally opening the door to Europe's premium long-haul logistics segment.

From crossing the 10-million-unit production and sales mark in 2021, to the 12-millionth vehicle rolling off the line at the Brazilian plant in 2025, and now the 13-millionth landing in Europe, the milestone testifies both to the company's manufacturing capability and to global recognition of Foton's product and service systems.

Europe is a vast market with stringent regulations, and its urban delivery, trunk-line, sanitation, passenger-transit and outdoor-work segments differ sharply — a single product can rarely meet the diverse needs of the region's zero-emission transition. In response, Foton Motor brought seven new-energy vehicles that cover the full range of sub-segments: the Auman Galaxy 9 PHEV hybrid, the Cavan BEACON, the Auhawk EHL low-entry sanitation truck, the Qimingxing, the Cavan Lefu, the Mars 9 Supreme PHEV hybrid, and the Foton Auv 12-metre city bus.

Among them, the Auman Galaxy 9 has already completed on-road testing in Spain, calibrated to local road conditions and operating standards, while the Cavan Lefu has already achieved overseas commercial deployment — balancing cutting-edge technology exploration with commercial maturity. The range spans plug-in hybrid, pure electric and hydrogen fuel-cell technology routes, matching Europe's all-scenario transport requirements. Foton disclosed that over the next three years it will continue to expand its overseas product matrix, completing a chain that covers last-mile delivery, urban sanitation, long-haul trunk routes and public transit.

Highlight 2: Deep Localization — Building the Foundations to Stay in Europe

Many brands going overseas remain at the level of simple product export. How does Foton Motor integrate deeply into Europe's local industrial ecosystem and hold its ground in the premium segment?

At the show, Liu Xuguang, Executive Vice General Manager of Foton Motor, officially unveiled the brand's new European strategy, signalling that Foton's globalisation has entered a new phase.

Foton has already built a well-rounded localised operating system in Europe. Its sales network covers close to 20 European countries, with full coverage of core European markets planned by 2028. The service and spare-parts network is following suit: a regional parts centre has been established in Germany, parts warehouses are in operation across 17 countries, and more than 300 authorised service outlets span the continent, guaranteeing rapid parts supply and efficient after-sales response.

Quality products are the ticket of entry; a localised strategy, a complete service ecosystem and end-to-end solutions are what give Foton Motor the confidence to deepen its presence in Europe's premium market.

Highlight 3: Hydrogen and Electric in Parallel — Cavan BEACON Resets the Benchmark for Long-Haul Logistics

The biggest technical talking point of this edition of the show was the overseas premiere of the Cavan BEACON, the flagship heavy truck engineered for long-haul trunk routes.

Wu Zongtian, President of Foton Motor's Overseas Business Division, explained that the model natively supports both pure-electric and hydrogen fuel-cell powertrain routes. Its sail-inspired bionic body, optimised as an integrated unit in the wind tunnel, achieves a drag coefficient as low as 0.28. Ergonomics were also refined: floor height was lowered to 1,450 mm and combined with a three-step entry to reduce driver boarding effort, while the cabin interior volume reaches 12 cubic metres, creating a spacious and comfortable living space for long-haul drivers.

In terms of hardware architecture, BEACON runs a new-generation centralised domain-control electrical/electronic architecture with a DPU multi-domain controller. Hardware is generously pre-installed so intelligent functions can be continuously upgraded over the air. It also uses an advanced steer-by-wire chassis whose lateral control precision, response speed and steady-state behaviour all lead the industry, combining handling stability with functional expandability.

Range and durability are equally notable: the pure-electric version exceeds 600 km and the hydrogen fuel-cell version breaks the 1,000 km mark, suiting the varied duty cycles of long-haul trunk routes. The complete battery-motor-control system has been validated under punishing operating conditions — the traction battery reaches a B10 life of 2,000,000 km, while the fuel-cell stack and electric drive axle core assemblies exceed a B10 life of 1,600,000 km, cutting lifecycle operating costs at the source and lifting vehicle availability.

Highlight 4: A Full-Stack In-House Battery-Motor-Control Portfolio — The Moat for Global Competition

Faced with a volatile global supply chain, independent control of core technology is what lets an exporting company hold the initiative in competition.

At Hannover, Foton Motor exhibited not only a complete vehicle matrix but also a concentrated display of self-developed components — heavy-duty traction batteries, heavy-duty electronic controls, heavy-duty electric drive axles, light-duty electric drive axles, low-voltage vehicle control units and megawatt-class charging piles — a full demonstration of in-house capability across the chain.

The battery-motor-control trio is the technical foundation of new-energy commercial vehicles. Only by mastering the core assemblies can a manufacturer truly control whole-vehicle energy consumption, service life and the customer's total cost of ownership over the lifecycle — which is also the platform on which the EASY MOVE proposition competes globally.

Foton's self-developed parallel-shaft and coaxial electric drive axles have reached peak efficiencies of 93.5% and 94% respectively, delivering efficient, stable power output and excellent energy consumption. The traction battery supports 1.44-megawatt ultra-fast charging to match high-frequency, high-intensity operations. In-house components safeguard the consistency of Foton's vehicle performance and quality while also being offered for external supply, genuinely reducing operating costs and supply-chain risk for overseas customers.

Highlight 5: The EASY MOVE Zero-Carbon Ecosystem — Solving Lifecycle Pain Points in One Package

European logistics operators increasingly value lifecycle services spanning energy replenishment, intelligent maintenance, asset value retention, battery recycling and fleet management. That is precisely the core of Foton's EASY MOVE philosophy — "Moving Everything More Freely."

The ecosystem divides into hardware and software. On the hardware side, photovoltaics, energy storage and charging-and-battery-swap infrastructure combine into a localised energy network that solves overseas customers' refuelling challenges. On the software side, remote diagnostics, intelligent dispatching and digital monitoring enable fine-grained fleet operations and lift overall efficiency.
