Racing Across Yunnan: Foton Qimingxing Wins Over Highland Logistics Operators with Real-World Performance

Running live trials along the Hu Huanyong Line, the second season of the Foton Qimingxing Efficiency Appreciation Tour has been deeply rooted in Yunnan, completing four consecutive real-world test stops in Tengchong, Kunming, Dali and Qujing.
Yunnan's terrain is vertically complex and highly differentiated: border mountain roads in western Yunnan are rugged and broken, Dali's lake-side switchback roads are densely packed with hazardous bends, and Kunming and Qujing interlace high-plateau gradients with steep climbs. The province as a whole combines large altitude differentials, long slopes, sharp bends and pronounced day-night temperature swings, while concentrating such diverse freight modes as border-port trans-shipment, highland fresh-produce cold chain, out-of-region transport of local agricultural products and mountain urban-rural distribution. These punishing operating conditions place extremely high demands on a new-energy light truck's power delivery, braking safety, battery-motor-control stability, range performance and intelligent adaptability — making Yunnan a natural proving ground for the all-round capability of a pure-electric logistics vehicle.
Built on genuine local transport scenarios in Yunnan, the Foton Qimingxing abandons one-size-fits-all adaptation in favour of a "one industry, one strategy" scenario-customisation philosophy. By refining product capability through multi-city, real-road testing, it precisely cracks the core pain points of highland mountain logistics, and has won broad recognition from local logistics companies and front-line drivers alike for its stable, dependable road behaviour and demonstrable operating value.
Facing long slopes and sharp bends: hardcore performance conquers extreme mountain duty cycles
Complex, ever-changing mountain roads are the core benchmark for a vehicle's power, braking and chassis stability. Across the four Yunnan stops, the Qimingxing three-vehicle matrix cleared a battery of extreme test sections, including the extra-long continuous gradients of Dafeng Pass on the Kunming–Mohann highway, the 68 densely packed hairpin bends at Yiliang, the lake-side switchback roads below Cangshan Mountain in Dali, and the intricate mountain curves around Qujing — a full-spectrum validation of mountain traversal capability.
Relying on an 800 V high-efficiency e-drive architecture and an oil-cooled flat-wire high-efficiency motor, the vehicle delivers abundant, smooth power when climbing under load, untroubled by rising altitude and prolonged high-load operation. Paired with an FBS brake-by-wire system with 0.1-second response and ESC electronic stability control, it recovers kinetic energy efficiently on long descents while effectively avoiding the brake fade caused by continuous friction braking. Thanks to the native pure-electric, low-centre-of-gravity chassis layout, body attitude stays composed and steering precise when cornering at full load — delivering on the essential demand voiced by Yunnan drivers: "it climbs, it turns, it stops."
From the border mountain roads of western Yunnan and the Dali mountain corridor to the high-plateau urban environment of Kunming and the mid-Yunnan mountain sections around Qujing, the route covered steep highland gradients, consecutive switchbacks, cliff-side and waterside hazardous roads, and rough urban-rural surfaces. The test thoroughly exercised power sustainability, steering accuracy and chassis durability. Throughout, power delivery remained linear and smooth, cornering tracking was precise, and the body stayed stable and controllable, comfortably matching the high-intensity rhythm of Yunnan's mountain heavy-load haulage, inter-city commuting and high-frequency distribution.
"When you run trucks in Yunnan, the two things you fear most are power dropping out on a long climb and brake pressure on a long descent. After crossing Dafeng Pass and the 68 bends, you can clearly feel that the power output is very steady, and the downhill energy recovery genuinely helps out." — a veteran freight driver taking part in the on-site test drives

Battery, motor and control all step up: full-spectrum fit for high-efficiency highland operations
Against Yunnan's complex environment — large altitude differentials, extreme day-night temperature swings, volatile mountain energy consumption and damp, rain-heavy conditions — the Foton Qimingxing draws on a dedicated native pure-electric platform and a high-safety, high-performance traction battery system, tackling the challenges of highland logistics across structural protection, safety redundancy and range.
A large-capacity battery is standard across the range, using a high-strength housing and premium cells, and having passed severe crash, crush, high- and low-temperature extreme testing for outstanding protection performance. The pack is sealed and reinforced with fine-grained engineering, combined with multi-layer thermal-insulation and flame-retardant barriers and explosion-proof protection, effectively resisting the assault of mountain vibration and impact, wet fording and sudden temperature change, and eliminating safety hazards at source. The battery shows strong resistance to degradation and stays stable over long-term operation, laying a solid safety foundation for high-frequency, high-intensity logistics duty.
Full-load range reaches 450 kilometres, covering all scenarios from urban delivery and county-level return runs to inter-city cold-chain transport in Yunnan. The generous energy reserve not only satisfies a full day of trunk-line operation, but also leaves headroom to power refrigeration units continuously and to support flexible multi-stop delivery — a close match for the long, stable duty cycle of highland fresh-produce cold chains.
The vehicle carries a full-domain thermal management system with heat pump, intelligently regulating battery operating temperature and self-adapting to altitude switching and abrupt day-night temperature change, effectively mitigating range decay and battery operating drift under highland conditions and guaranteeing all-weather, safe and stable output from the three-electric system. An intelligent kinetic-energy recovery system harvests energy efficiently on long downhills and during coasting, optimising mountain energy consumption while balancing savings against battery load protection.
On the refuelling side, 2C ultra-fast charging takes the battery from 20% to 80% in just 18 minutes, with multi-mode intelligent charging balancing replenishment speed against battery service life. Drivers can top up during fragmented windows such as loading and unloading or rest breaks, materially lifting vehicle turnaround efficiency and daily utilisation — an ideal fit for high-frequency operations in airport logistics, cold-chain commerce and express parcel sorting.

Scenario-based customisation: unlocking new value for south-west logistics
Grounded in Yunnan's differentiated and diverse logistics modes, the Qimingxing applies "one industry, one strategy" customised calibration to match each core local transport scenario precisely. Yunnan is rich in fresh-produce resources, with strong cold-chain demand for flowers, mushrooms and fruit and vegetables, layered with Tengchong border-port trans-shipment, county-level agricultural consolidation and airport trade distribution — all of which impose strict requirements on vehicle stability, range and rough-road adaptability.
With long-haul stable range and a solid, dependable native chassis, the Qimingxing reduces fresh-goods damage caused by mountain vibration and safeguards efficient border trans-shipment, inter-city cold chain and out-of-county agricultural transport. A local cold-chain logistics manager commented: "In Yunnan, flowers and produce go out in volume — you need to run the city and the mountain counties, and the refrigeration unit keeps drawing power. Range and reliability directly determine cargo loss and revenue; those are the two things we value most when choosing a new-energy vehicle."
To suit the differing road conditions across Yunnan's regions, the vehicle's intelligent equipment and chassis performance are adapted comprehensively. In Kunming and Qujing, stop-start on urban gradients and congestion on narrow streets are constant; around Dali, lake-side switchbacks are rough and complex. The L2-level driver-assistance suite — adaptive cruise control, lane keeping and AEB autonomous emergency braking — materially eases the fatigue of long mountain crossings and city traffic jams. Auto Hold and a 360° panoramic surround-view system eliminate the classic headaches of rolling back on a steep start and blind spots when meeting traffic on narrow roads. Facing重载 farm-goods haulage out of the mountains and long-haul port transfer, high torque masters loaded gradients while the stable braking system absorbs the intensity of consecutive long descents, protecting high-value cargo and helping highland speciality products leave Yunnan efficiently.
The model also fits border-port trans-shipment, township agricultural consolidation and inter-city express lines. An industry-first single-step entry design suits high-frequency loading and unloading, saving time and effort, while a 600,000-kilometre B10 ultra-durable body shrugs off complex surfaces and cuts long-term maintenance cost. As one self-employed driver who attended the trial put it: "Yunnan roads are full of bends and climbs, and you tire quickly driving long hours. This driving-assistance package and the air-suspension seat genuinely lighten the driver's load — long runs feel far less stressful."
Built on the FEEP 2.0 full-domain electronic-electrical architecture, the vehicle achieves deep coordination of powertrain, driver assistance and chassis systems. Combined with lightweight design and intelligent energy recovery, it lowers both mountain energy consumption and total cost of ownership. Human-centred features such as an air-suspension driver's seat and a wide berth sleeper markedly improve comfort on mountain freight runs. The multi-city Yunnan appreciation events, pairing dynamic test drives with professional technical briefings, let customers experience the product's hardcore capability first-hand, and closed with multiple signing agreements reached on site — a complete loop from real-road testing and user experience to market conversion.

"A lot of new-energy models are developed to plain-land duty cycles and suffer altitude sickness once they reach the Yunnan plateau. At this event we could drive the vehicles on real roads and see that they have been specifically optimised for mountains and cold chain — exactly what our fleet needs for its transition." — a representative of a Yunnan logistics company that signed at the event
From four Yunnan stops to the road north
From the border mountain town of Tengchong and the Dali mountain corridor to Kunming, the high-plateau "Spring City", and Qujing, the mountain logistics hub, the Qimingxing has completed its full-duty-cycle trial across all four Yunnan stops, accumulating a large body of proprietary operating data on highland mountain roads, cliff-side routes, wide temperature swings and heavy-load long descents. Foton Qimingxing holds to its commitment to forward, ground-up research and development, deepens its cultivation of the south-west logistics market, and keeps refining scenario-based, customised pure-electric logistics solutions built around real user operating conditions.
Looking ahead, Foton Qimingxing will continue to serve Yunnan's diverse logistics demand across port economies, fresh cold chain, mountain heavy haul and urban-rural distribution, delivering low-energy, high-adaptability, high-efficiency pure-electric transport solutions for the plateau and supporting the green and intelligent upgrade of south-west logistics.
