In the first half of 2026 BAIC Foton delivered a high-quality operating performance, posting revenue of RMB 33.668 billion, up 10.86% year on year, and net profit attributable to shareholders of RMB 905 million, up 16.54% year on year — growth on both the top and bottom lines, with steadily improving earnings quality.
By August, however, China's commercial vehicle industry had entered the depths of its traditional high-summer off-season. Persistent extreme heat suppressed outdoor construction work, bulk freight and express delivery both hit a lull, and trade-in demand had been partly pulled forward by the first half of the year. By August, however, China's commercial vehicle industry had entered the depths of its traditional high-summer off-season. Persistent extreme heat suppressed outdoor construction work, bulk freight and express delivery both hit a seasonal lull, and trade-in demand had been partly pulled forward into the first half of the year. End-market demand remained soft, competition intensified, and industry-wide volumes slipped to a阶段性阶段性阶段性...阶段性 low point of the annual cycle.
Against that backdrop, Foton sustained its steady growth on the strength of its full-system operating capability and multi-segment footprint. A series of brand initiatives — including the Foton Science & Technology Culture Festival and the Foton Brand Day — concentrated the release of its technology and product momentum, demonstrating a notable capacity to ride out the cycle. Latest production and sales data show total vehicle sales of more than 50,000 units in August and 463,000 units in the January–August period, up 8.9% year on year. Within that, overseas sales grew 38.6% year on year in August and new energy vehicle sales rose 50%. Cumulative volumes remain first in China's commercial vehicle industry, further consolidating the leading competitive position.
Heavy-truck core business reinforced; scaled intelligent driving and finer scenario coverage
In August, China's heavy-truck market was weighed down by low trunk-line freight rates and slower starts in infrastructure projects, and end-market demand continued to retreat. Foton's heavy-truck business, supported by its multi-powertrain layout, intelligent upgrades and batch deliveries in key regions, showed strong counter-cyclical resilience, with August heavy-truck sales approaching 11,000 units.
Addressing user pain points across different operating conditions, Foton has kept refining precise product matching and end-market execution. On 6 August, 30 Auman Galaxy 5 HWP highway-pilotage heavy trucks were formally delivered to a leading trunk-line logistics customer. Cumulatively, Auman Galaxy series intelligent trucks have now been delivered in volumes exceeding 3,000 units to mainstream logistics operators including SF Express, J&T Express, Deppon and ZTO, covering the core logistics corridors of North, East and South China — a signal that intelligent heavy trucks have entered scaled commercial operation on trunk lines.
For high-altitude mining and infrastructure scenarios in southwest China, the Auman Galaxy T new-energy dump truck arrived in the Sichuan–Tibet region in early August and immediately secured 36 orders at its launch event, filling a new-energy gap in high-altitude engineering applications. Between 13 and 15 August, an Auman Galaxy 5 HWP intelligent truck carried multiple embodied-intelligence robots from Huaxiang Qiyuan, departing from the Ningbo Xiangshan base, transshipping in Shanghai and arriving safely in Beijing for the 2026 World Robot Conference — completing a precision equipment transfer across three cities and vividly illustrating the convergence of smart logistics and the intelligent equipment industry. On 31 August, the Auman Xinghui all-energy product appreciation event was held in Bozhou, Anhui, where the Auman Galaxy 9 intelligent truck equipped with the Cangqiong intelligent driving system was presented, covering fuel, gas and pure-electric energy routes and accelerating the penetration of intelligent products into East China's lower-tier markets.
Only by firmly controlling proprietary core technology can a lasting competitive advantage be built. At the Foton Science & Technology Culture Festival held on 24 August — staged against the deep transformation of the commercial vehicle industry towards new energy, intelligence, premiumisation and globalisation — Foton officially released its "15th Five-Year" technology strategy. The strategy focuses on eight core technology domains: low-carbon powertrains, new energy, intelligent connectivity, intelligent chassis, material lightweighting, artificial intelligence, industrial ecosystems and frontier technology. It sets out to build a full-chain, systematised, mass-producible and export-ready innovation system, and unveiled seven major independently developed technological achievements. On 28 August, at the Foton brand and new product launch, the Cangqiong intelligent driving product architecture platform was released. Responding to the complexity of commercial vehicle operating conditions, the breadth of product categories and the fragmentation of scenarios, Foton has self-developed an industry-specific "5+3+1+N" full-stack intelligent driving technology system, built on three architecture platforms — Cangqiong A, B and C — delivering graduated coverage from closed sites and urban roads to highway trunk lines and full-domain driverless operation, balancing frontier technology reserves with near-term commercial deployment.
Overseas growth engine expands: major orders and hub deployment in parallel
While China's domestic commercial vehicle market cooled in the off-season with weak overall momentum, overseas markets stayed firmly positive. Drawing on years of international development, Foton's overseas business recorded breakthroughs on multiple fronts — from batch deliveries in emerging markets and the commissioning of regional hubs to entry into premium markets — pushing its global footprint deeper and releasing sustained growth momentum. In August, vehicle exports exceeded 20,000 units, up 38.6% year on year; January–August exports reached nearly 150,000 units, up 44.3% year on year. The export mix continued to improve, with the share of higher-value products such as heavy trucks and new energy models rising steadily.
28 August became a landmark date in Foton's globalisation process, with three signature projects landing on the same day. First, 800 Auman heavy trucks were dispatched in convoy formation to Zambia in Africa to serve cross-border logistics and trunk-line transport; fitted with the ISG380 powertrain and specified for 56-tonne gross combinations and complex mixed road conditions, the batch marks Foton's upgrade in Africa from a single-vehicle seller to an integrated fleet-operation solution provider. Second, Foton's Manzhouli export base was officially opened and completed its first deliveries; as a core hub serving Eurasia and Central Asia, it will further strengthen channel networks and delivery performance across the North Asia region. Third, on Foton Brand Day the company announced that the Galaxus R9 premium heavy truck had entered the Americas market — a key step in Foton's comprehensive internationalisation strategy, placing a Chinese premium heavy truck in direct competition in the global high-end segment, upgrading overseas business from volume-driven export to value-driven export, and accelerating brand penetration for Chinese premium commercial vehicles in mature markets.
New energy transition deepens; product portfolio upgraded again
As the new energy industry accelerates its penetration, demand for specialised and refined solutions in commercial vehicle sub-segments keeps rising. To match the technology and capacity requirements of different scenarios precisely, Foton maintains coverage of pure electric, hybrid and hydrogen technology routes and continues to deepen its new energy transition. In pure electric, it has achieved breakthroughs in proprietary core three-electric modules; in hybrid, it has built a multi-route, multi-platform product portfolio on the strength of self-developed key modules; in hydrogen, it pursues forward-looking deployment and targeted research to progressively close the loop of the hydrogen transport industry. By holding core modules in-house, continuously iterating vehicle platforms and extending an all-category product matrix, Foton is accelerating the global new energy transition of commercial vehicles.
In market terms, Foton's new energy sales have continued to climb. August new energy vehicle sales across all series approached 12,000 units, up 50% year on year; January–August cumulative sales reached 82,000 units, up 24.9% year on year. At the brand and new product launch on 28 August, Foton unveiled two strategic new models at once — the Cavana Xinghai and the Cavana Lefu V7 — further completing a full-scenario green capacity matrix and injecting fresh momentum into the low-carbon transition of the commercial vehicle industry.
The Cavana Xinghai heavy truck is built on a dedicated forward-engineered platform that accepts both battery-electric and hydrogen power. Its pure-electric version breaks the 600 km range barrier and it carries the industry's first mass-produced 800 V high-voltage liquid-cooled ultra-fast charging technology, taking just 18 minutes to charge from 20% to 80% — directly addressing the refuelling-efficiency bottleneck of trunk-line logistics. The Cavana Lefu V7, meanwhile, defines an entirely new "MPVan" category, combining passenger-car-grade intelligence and comfort with the space advantages of a large van, precisely covering four premium scenarios: route passenger services, tourism and business travel, corporate hospitality, and leisure conversion. It fills the domestic gap for a premium new energy passenger VAN.
On the deployment side, Foton's new energy models recorded batch deliveries and contract signings in August, with market recognition rising steadily. In cold chain, Foton Auhaw/Aumark signed 50 orders plus 30 letters of intent with a leading Beijing cold-chain logistics enterprise and delivered the first 30 Aumark Z smart-ecosystem premium pure-electric refrigerated trucks on site, providing green capacity to lift transport efficiency and expand business scale while advancing the green upgrade of Beijing's cold-chain fleet. In passenger transport, batches of high-quality pure-electric coaches — the Foton AUV BJ6117 and BJ6826EVUA-2 — were delivered to transport operators in Shanghai and Qiandongnan, meeting demand for higher-quality mobility while cutting full-lifecycle operating costs and supporting the low-carbon transition of the coach industry. In urban distribution, 23 Forland Xiangling U8 vans were delivered to a benchmark logistics enterprise in Yunnan, winning high praise for scenario adaptability and low-cost operation and achieving a business breakthrough for van models from operating leasing to end sales.
With market differentiation intensifying across the commercial vehicle industry, the off-season is the true test of corporate quality. Through a complete product matrix, scenario-focused depth, overseas expansion and technology upgrading working in concert, Foton has turned a traditional slow season into a window for strategic execution and capability upgrade, sustaining solid volume growth while continuously improving the quality of development. Looking ahead, Foton will deepen its strategies of comprehensive internationalisation, comprehensive new energy transition and comprehensive intelligentisation — with proprietary technology as the core foundation, scenario-based products as the breakthrough lever and a global ecosystem as the growth support — strengthening the systemic resilience to ride industry cycles and continuing to lead the high-quality development and global upgrade of China's commercial vehicle industry.
