The 2026 IAA Transportation Hannover is about to open. Under the exhibition theme "EASY MOVE," BAIC Foton steps beyond the habit of simply unveiling new vehicles, bringing instead seven star exhibits and six self-developed core electric powertrain components. They span five segments — long-haul trunk lines, sanitation, urban delivery, public transit and pickups — to fit demand across multiple global markets.

For long-haul trunk logistics, the Auman Galaxy 9 PHEV heavy truck offers a hybrid route to cut costs and raise efficiency. Relying on a high-thermal-efficiency hybrid-dedicated engine, a hybrid-dedicated electromechanical coupling transmission with 99.8% transmission efficiency and a 58.73 kWh high-rate lithium iron phosphate battery, whole-vehicle fuel savings reach 15%–28%, directly helping fleets control fuel expenditure. On safety, a shield-type body structure uses 69% high-strength steel, with crash protection indicators 20% above industry regulation; the HWP combined driving assistance system, more than 800 cab functions and a two-megapixel surround-view system build a complete intelligent safety architecture. Air suspension, zero-gravity seats and a drag coefficient as low as 0.348 fully support the driving experience on long cross-regional hauls.

The Cavana BEACON electric-or-hydrogen flagship heavy truck is the technology benchmark Foton brings this time. Built on a purpose-developed dedicated heavy-truck platform, it is natively compatible with three energy forms: BEV, gaseous hydrogen and liquid hydrogen. The industry's first mass-produced application of an 800V high-voltage platform, matched with megawatt ultra-fast charging, delivers 100 km of range from six minutes of charging — striking directly at the shared pain point of time-consuming refueling in trunk logistics. Through 62 new materials, biomimetic structural optimisations and process innovations, the vehicle sheds 10–20% in weight, lifting payload revenue. A 100% high-strength steel cage frame passes the European ECE R29-03 crash certification, while a multi-sensor fusion perception network and a commercial-vehicle AI voice large model deliver combined breakthroughs in light-weighting, safety, intelligence and comfort, providing a deployable equipment choice for global zero-carbon trunk logistics.

In urban municipal operations, the Auhang EHL low-entry sanitation sweeper is deeply developed for the characteristics of sanitation work. A fully self-developed three-electric system supports OTA iterative upgrades, and the battery retains more than 80% state of health after 3,000 cycles. The self-developed oil-cooled flat-wire electric drive axle reaches a peak efficiency of 97.5% and is maintenance-free for 500,000 km. A 410 mm first step reduces the physical strain of boarding and alighting for operators; integrated chassis-and-body development standardises mechanical, electrical and CAN communication interfaces, achieving "zero-modification upfitting." Hardened salt-spray and ageing resistance hardware standards let the vehicle handle the humid, highly corrosive sanitation working environment with ease.

The urban delivery segment forms a high-and-low product pairing. The Foton Qimingxing light truck is born on a dedicated pure-electric platform, with a drag coefficient as low as 0.37 and a SiC oil-cooled integrated electric drive system, offering multiple battery pack specifications and a maximum whole-vehicle range of 600 km. A 480 mm first-step version improves the working experience for frequent boarding and alighting. The cage-type body uses 51% high-strength steel and passes the ECE R29-03 crash safety certification; a new-generation domain-controlled electrical and electronic architecture natively supports fleet digital management, with optional urban NOA capability, suiting high-intensity urban delivery operations worldwide.

The Mars 9 PHEV is built for the global pickup market, with a 2.0T plus P12 four-speed DHT powertrain delivering 350 kW combined output and a 1,000 km combined range, plus a 3.5-tonne towing rating and 800 mm wading depth. It covers urban commuting, heavy-duty towing and off-road scenarios, balancing new-energy economy with hardcore off-road performance.

The Foton Auhui 12-metre pure-electric city bus is developed for the global public transit market and has obtained WVTA European whole-vehicle certification. Its three-door, ultra-low-floor barrier-free structure delivers more than 400 km of range under SORT2 conditions, while 400 kW high-power fast charging completes a 10%–90% top-up in 1.5 hours. The three-electric system meets stringent durability standards and core components support recycling and reuse, aligning with carbon-neutrality goals in many markets.

Teardown of the Underlying Hardware

Six self-developed assemblies answer the supply-chain question of going global

To run a commercial vehicle business globally, vehicle performance is only the surface. The supply stability, iteration capability and maintenance cost of core components directly determine how long a product can survive in different countries and regions. Heavy dependence on external supply chains easily leaves after-sales repair and software iteration at the mercy of others — a practical problem that global operations must overcome.

At this year's IAA Hannover, Foton has set up a dedicated components section showcasing six self-developed assemblies: a heavy-duty electronic control PEU, a heavy-duty traction battery, a heavy-duty electric drive axle, a light-duty electric drive axle, a low-voltage VCU whole-vehicle controller, and a megawatt European-standard liquid-cooled charging pile — covering the full technology chain from control units and energy storage to drive assemblies and high-power charging.

For heavy-truck core assemblies, the heavy-duty electric control PEU adopts platformised integrated design with multiple function modules highly consolidated, reaching ASIL-D, the highest functional safety level, and carrying an HSM hardware security module to protect vehicle operation and data security across several medium- and heavy-truck platforms. The heavy-duty traction battery uses high-density LFP cells with 85% module integration efficiency, retaining more than 70% state of health after 4,500 charge-discharge cycles and supporting 1.6 million km of whole-vehicle operation; modular design allows flexible capacity configuration for different customer needs. The heavy-duty electric drive axle integrates motor, transmission and rear axle with 93.8% transmission efficiency, a 1.6 million km design life and 500,000 km maintenance-free wheel ends; its modular structure simplifies on-site inspection and repair, and related products have already won overseas market orders.

For light commercial vehicles, the light-duty electric drive axle innovates with an MTCU plus SiC oil-cooled flat-wire architecture, achieving 95.7% assembly efficiency, cutting 90 kg versus conventional direct-drive solutions, keeping whole-domain NVH at or below 72 decibels, and offering 300,000 km maintenance-free wheel bearings — effectively lowering full-lifecycle maintenance costs for light trucks. The low-voltage VCU is compact and highly platform-generalised, already deployed at scale across Foton's entire new-energy range and validated by large volumes of field vehicles, serving as the core control unit for whole-vehicle coordinated scheduling.

The European-standard dual-gun megawatt liquid-cooled charger is another highlight: up to 600 kW per gun and 1,200 kW combined, matching mainstream heavy-truck fast-charging interface standards, with liquid-cooled heat dissipation ensuring stable operation under high-current conditions. Vehicles and high-power charging equipment appearing side by side signals that Foton does more than export transport vehicles — it can deliver an integrated "vehicle-charger" new-energy support system, addressing the uneven charging infrastructure that constrains trunk logistics in many markets.
