The 2026 IAA Transportation in Hannover is about to open its doors. BAIC Foton will exhibit under the theme "EASY MOVE", stepping away from the habit of simply launching new vehicles, and instead bringing seven all-star show trucks and six self-developed core electric powertrain components. The exhibition matrix covers long-haul heavy trucks, urban municipal operations, city logistics, public transport and off-road pickups, presenting everything from complete vehicles to underlying battery-motor-control assemblies and high-power charging equipment. The core value of commercial vehicles is rooted in hugely varied real-world operating conditions. The seven vehicles Foton is bringing this time span hybrid, pure electric and electric-or-hydrogen technology routes, developed around the road conditions, operating habits and policy requirements of different regions worldwide, and covering five segments — long-haul trunk lines, sanitation, urban distribution, passenger transport and pickups — to match demand across multiple global markets.

Long-haul heavy truck: For long-distance trunk logistics, the Auman Galaxy 9 PHEV offers a hybrid route to cut cost and raise efficiency. Backed by a high thermal-efficiency dedicated hybrid engine, a dedicated hybrid transmission with a 99.8% efficiency electro-mechanical coupler, and a 58.73 kWh high-rate LFP battery, the vehicle achieves fuel savings of 15%–28%, directly reducing fleet fuel expenditure. On safety, a shield-type body structure with 69% high-strength steel exceeds regulatory crash-protection requirements by 20%; the HWP combined driver-assistance system, more than 800 cab functions and a 2-megapixel surround-view system build a complete intelligent safety net. Air suspension, zero-gravity seats and a drag coefficient as low as 0.348 secure the comfort of long-distance, cross-region transport.

Technology flagship: The Cavana BEACON, an electric-or-hydrogen flagship heavy truck, is the technology benchmark Foton presents this year. Built on a purpose-developed heavy-truck-dedicated platform, it is natively compatible with three energy forms — BEV, gaseous hydrogen and liquid hydrogen. It is an industry first in mass-producing an 800 V high-voltage platform paired with megawatt ultra-fast charging, achieving 100 km of range from a six-minute charge, striking directly at the shared pain point of time-consuming recharging in trunk logistics. Through 62 new-material, biomimetic structural and process innovations, the vehicle sheds 10–20% of its weight, lifting payload revenue; a 100% high-strength-steel cage frame is certified to the European ECE R29-03 crash standard, while a multi-sensor fusion perception network and a commercial-vehicle AI voice large model deliver breakthroughs across light-weighting, safety, intelligence and ride experience — offering a deployable equipment choice for global zero-carbon trunk logistics.

Urban municipal operations: The Auhang EHL low-entry sanitation sweeper is deeply developed around the specific characteristics of sanitation duty. A fully self-developed three-electric system supports OTA iterative upgrades, and the battery retains more than 80% state of health after 3,000 cycles. The self-developed oil-cooled flat-wire electric drive axle reaches a peak efficiency of 97.5% with 500,000 km maintenance-free operation. A 410 mm first-step design lowers the physical strain of crew boarding and alighting; chassis-and-body integrated development fixes mechanical, electrical and CAN communication interfaces, enabling a "zero-modification entry" workflow; and hardened salt-spray and ageing resistance standards let the vehicle cope calmly with the humid, highly corrosive sanitation environment.

Urban distribution — a high-low pairing: The Qimingxing light truck is born on a dedicated forward-developed pure-electric platform, with a drag coefficient as low as 0.37, an SiC oil-cooled integrated electric drive system and multiple battery pack options, delivering a maximum range of 600 km. A 480 mm first-step version improves the experience of frequent boarding and alighting. The cage body uses 51% high-strength steel and is certified to European ECE R29-03 crash safety; a next-generation domain-controller electrical/electronic architecture natively supports fleet digital management, with optional urban NOA capability, suiting the high-intensity operating scenarios of city delivery worldwide.

Niche segments are equally covered. The Mars 9 PHEV, built for the global pickup market, pairs a 2.0T engine with a P12 four-speed DHT powertrain for a combined output of 350 kW and combined range of 1,000 km, with a 3.5-tonne towing rating and 800 mm wading depth — balancing urban commuting, heavy towing and off-roading, and reconciling new-energy economy with hardcore越野 capability.

The Auhui 12-metre pure-electric city bus, developed for the global public transport market, holds WVTA European whole-vehicle certification, with a three-door ultra-low-floor accessible structure and a SORT2-cycle range exceeding 400 km. A 400 kW high-power fast charger completes a 10%–90% recharge in 1.5 hours; the three-electric system meets demanding durability standards and core components support recycling and reuse, aligned with carbon-neutrality agendas in many markets.

Opening Up the Underlying Hardware

Six Self-Developed Assemblies Answer the Supply-Chain Question of Globalisation

Selling commercial vehicles into global markets means vehicle performance is only the surface. The supply stability, iteration capability and maintenance cost of core components directly determine how long a product can survive in different countries and regions. Heavy dependence on external supply chains easily leaves after-sales repair and software upgrades at another party's mercy — a practical challenge any global operator must overcome.

At this year's IAA Hannover, Foton has set up a dedicated components section exhibiting six self-developed assemblies: heavy-duty electric control unit (PEU), heavy-duty traction battery, heavy-duty electric drive axle, light-duty electric drive axle, low-voltage VCU vehicle controller, and a megawatt European-standard liquid-cooled charger — covering the full chain from control units and energy storage to drive assemblies and high-power charging.

On heavy-truck core assemblies, the heavy-duty PEU uses platformised integrated design with multiple highly consolidated functional modules, reaching the highest ASIL-D functional-safety level, and carries an HSM hardware security module to protect vehicle operation and data security across several medium- and heavy-truck platforms. The heavy-duty battery uses high-density LFP cells at 85% module integration efficiency, retaining more than 70% SOH after 4,500 cycles and supporting 1.6 million km of vehicle life; modular design allows flexible capacity configuration for different customer needs. The heavy-duty electric drive axle integrates motor, transmission and rear axle at 93.8% transmission efficiency, with a design life of 1.6 million km and 500,000 km maintenance-free wheel ends; the modular structure simplifies on-site service, and related products have already secured overseas orders.

For light commercial vehicles, the light-duty electric drive axle introduces an innovative MTCU + SiC oil-cooled flat-wire architecture at 95.7% overall efficiency, saving 90 kg versus conventional direct-drive solutions, keeping whole-range NVH below 72 dB, and offering 300,000 km maintenance-free wheel bearings — effectively compressing lifetime maintenance cost for light trucks. The low-voltage VCU is compact and highly platformised, already deployed at scale across Foton's full new-energy range and validated by vast real-world mileage as the core control unit for whole-vehicle coordination.

The European-standard dual-gun megawatt liquid-cooled charger is another highlight: 600 kW per gun, 1,200 kW combined on dual guns, matching mainstream heavy-truck fast-charging interface standards, with liquid-cooled heat dissipation ensuring stable high-current operation. Showing complete vehicles and high-power charging equipment side by side signals that Foton does not only export transport vehicles — it can deliver an integrated "vehicle-plus-charger" new-energy support system, responding directly to the uneven charging infrastructure of trunk logistics in many markets.

A look at how the leading international commercial vehicle companies approach exhibitions reveals that impressive range and power figures are merely the entry ticket. What truly decides market success is whether a product can integrate into the commercial systems of different regions, and whether paper specifications can be converted into TCO benefits that customers around the world can actually feel.
